ADSL Same as Broadband.
Backup Somewhere you place a copy of your files, in case of emergency. more
Bluetooth Wireless communication upto 10 metres.
CD-RW Read / write CD
cpu The central processor / chip
FDD Floppy disk drive
Firewire Fast peripheral cable, like usb. IE1394.
FTP File transfer protocol. Used to upload/download from a server on the Internet. For example our backup service.
gb gigabyte 1,024 mb's
ghz Gigahertz. CPU speed.
HDD Hard Disk Drive
HTTP Hypertext transport protocol, used to transport web pages.
HTML Hypertext markup language, programming language / script for web pages.
Hyperlink A link to another webpage. Usually underlined.
IE 1394 Firewire.
Internet This is what the Web runs on.

Kbps kilobytes per second (used for broadband speed)
Laptop Same as notebook, mobile computer.

memory See RAM.
Microfilter adsl splitter, splits data & voice in a small telephone jack/socket.
Modem Can be analogue modem, that uses tradional BT tel line, or digital that uses adsl or cable modem.
Network 2 or more computers connected.
NIC Network Interface Card
PAYG pay as you go, charged on extra data downloaded (adsl).
PCMCIA Credit card sized push in card for laptop.
RAM Memory, chips contaning fast access data. 128mb - 1gb usually.
RJ11 Modem cable
RJ45 The connector for network / ethernet cable.
Router A network device to route information across networks. Used to share an internet connection. eg adsl router.
Server A larger computer, that many users access.
USB Universal serial bus, general peripheral connector.
Wireless usually refers to a network connecting over radiowaves upto 100 metres.
Web The Web, are graphical HTML webpages, based on servers across the world.
